Broken Glass Jello is a beautiful and impressive looking dessert. But let me tell you a secret, this stained glass jello is not complicated at all! Follow my step by step instructions to make this fun dessert.

Broken Glass Jello

Isn’t it beautiful and mesmerizing to look at? It reminds of me stained glass art, or mosaic might be a more accurate term. Whatever, it's pretty, it's delicious and it's perfect for parties...especially summer ones!!

Btw if you're really into pretty looking desserts then don't forget to check out my Strawberry Parfait and Fruit Parfait. 🙂

Also, it’s really cool how this dessert is made. It seems very complicated, but trust me, it isn’t difficult at all to make.

Stained Glass Jello in a Serving Dish

But first, let’s talk about how this broken glass jello is like the dessert version of the movie Inception. Wait, what?

Remember a dream within a dream? Well this is jello within a jello. Hahahaha. Sorry, I had to do it.

Okay, lame jokes aside, let’s get down to the recipe basics of this pretty dessert.

So What is Broken Glass Jello?

Broken Glass Jello aka Stained Glass Jello, is simply colourful jello cubes immersed in a condensed milk jello. And then the whole thing is chilled in the fridge, until it's all set and ready to be cut into cubes. Cubes within cubes, aahh jello inception. 😛

But How Do You Make Jello Cubes?

Jello cubes are so easy to make. You can use as many flavours of jello you want. I used four flavors: strawberry jello, lime jello, orange jello, and lemon jello.

Mexican Mosaic Jello

Dissolve each flavour of jello into 1 cup of hot water each. And then pour into separate rectangular or square dishes, and set in the fridge. I used disposable containers, for easy clean up.

Once the jellos are set, take them out and cut them into cubes. So simple!

P.S. As you can see, I wasn't able to cut the jello into perfect cubes, but I think the random shapes make the dessert look even cuter.

But...but...How Do You Make Condensed Milk Jello?

No worries. It’s super simple to make condensed milk jello.

Just dissolve some gelatine powder into 1/4 cup of cold water and then add condensed milk and 1 cup of water. Mix well.

Assembling the Broken Glass Jello

Pour the condensed milk jello mixture (it isn't set at this point, so is liquidy) into a serving dish, and then plop in the jello cubes randomly. Transfer to the fridge, and chill for a couple of hours until everything has set completely.

To serve, cut into large cubes, and if you want you can even garnish with a bit of whipped cream.

And isn't this sea of jello, just beautiful to look at?

Broken Glass Jello

That’s it!

Serve it to your guests at a party, and you’ll surely have them ask how you made such a beautiful dessert. And then you can act all mysterious, or just send them to my blog! 😉

  • 4 cups boiling water

For the Condensed Milk Jello

  • 3 tablespoons gelatine powder
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Buy a box of unflavored powdered gelatin packages in grocery. If can't find them ask a store employee,

You say "condensed" milk. Does that mean canned evaporated milk (like Carnation) or sweetened condensed milk (like Eagle Brand)?

My mother in law use to always make a version of this at Christmas. Her’s had a graham cracker crust. It’s a good memory as we all looked forward to the holiday tradition.
