Recipe Notes and Cooking Tips

Here are some notes about the full recipe that will hopefully make your life a little easier.

Chicken Breasts: Flattening the chicken breasts results in more even cooking, so don't skip this step. If your chicken breasts are already pretty flat and even you may not have to worry about it. If you don't have a meat mallet, you can place your chicken under a sheet of cling wrap or in a plastic bag and flatten them using a rolling pin or another heavy object.

Grill pan: If you use a grill pan instead of a grill or the oven, your chicken will take longer to cook because there is less surface area contact. I don't recommend turning the heat up; you will end up with a burnt top and an undercooked middle. Let it cook on medium-high heat and watch it closely.

Getting Perfect Grill Lines: This may seem silly, but it's so satisfying to present your meals with an aesthetic touch. Once you place the chicken breasts on the heated grilled pan, press gently using a spatula, and let it cook untouched for a few minutes. You won't get those nice grill marks if you flip it too early, so let it be. If you don't care about that sort of thing, feel free to disregard it!

Other Cooking Options: If you don't have a grill pan or don't prefer one, you can easily use a frying pan, skillet, or outdoor grill. The chicken will likely cook faster with these options though, so keep a close eye on it. Depending on the thickness of your chicken, it may only take 3-5 minutes to cook through. The heat of the grill will certainly heat your chicken up fast, so stand by!

Variations: If you don't care for some of the seasonings in this recipe, you can easily substitute your favorite herbs, spices, and even balsamic vinegar. A chicken marinade is made best when you use your taste buds!

Recipe FAQs

Can marinated chicken be frozen?

If you wish to prepare your marinated chicken and store it in the freezer, you can do so for up to 3 months. Marinate your chicken and place it in a Ziploc freezer bag for storage. Make sure you squeeze out any excess air. Once you are ready to cook your chicken, thaw it by placing it in the refrigerator overnight or place it in a bowl of cold water for a few hours.

Is grilled chicken healthy?

Yes, it is as chicken is lean meat, and usually the ingredients used in the marinade are seasonings and sauces which don't add up on the calorie front.

Serving Suggestions

Trying to decide what to serve with your grilled chicken steak? Give french fries, baked potatoes, sautéed vegetables, or mashed potatoes a chance. They will add great flavor to your already amazing chicken.

The chicken is also yummy when used on sandwiches, inside a wrap, and even as a pizza topping. We often have leftovers, and those are used for a quick lunch topping.
