About this Recipe
I've been making this creamy fruit salad for the longest time but didn't really know the name. I got it from a friend, who had it in someone else's place. So I just used to call this recipe fruits with condensed milk.
But turns out, this recipe does have a name! It's basically an Indian Fruit Salad, that's made with sweetened condensed milk and heavy cream. I love this recipe because it's a show-stopper and everyone always absolutely loves it. It's also an extremely easy salad to make!
Why You'll Love this Creamy Fruit Salad Recipe
Impressive Dessert: This is a simple, yet delicious recipe. People are always amazed when they taste it, but it's actually a very basic salad. The combination of sweet and tart fruits with creamy condensed milk gives a fresh and decadent flavor simultaneously.
Make it Your Own: Add your favorite fruits to this recipe to make a salad you absolutely love. Don't love kiwi? No worries, use mango instead. You can use lots of different fruits for this recipe, barring a few such as watermelon, which would make it too watery.
Make Ahead: You can easily make this salad a night before you have to serve it. However, if you're making it ahead then I would suggest adding the banana and apple right before serving it.
Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
The Fruit
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Kiwi
- Apple
- Banana
- Grapes
These are the fruits I like to use in this salad, however, you can add many others such as mango, raspberries, pineapple, and mandarin oranges.
The Creamy Sweetened Condensed Milk Dressing
- Sweetened Condensed Milk: This is not the same as evaporated milk, which I use in my Karak Chai. Sweetened Condensed Milk is simply a reduced version of milk that is then sweetened. It's sticky, sweet, and pale yellow. And basically, it's a magical ingredient that makes everything taste delicious.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: You can also use half and half if needed.
- Milk: Just a little bit of milk, to help thin out the dressing.
How to Make It
- Step 1: Prepare all the fruit by chopping it into bite-sized pieces except the blueberries. Transfer to a bowl, and mix well.
- Step 2: In a mixing bowl, mix together the sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, and milk.
- Step 3: Pour the dressing over the fruit. Mix well until combined.
- Step 4: Cover the bowl, and place it in the refrigerator to chill.
Helpful Tips
Tip #1: Bananas and apples tend to oxidize quickly after being chopped. If you are making this salad ahead of time, I suggest adding these two fruits right before serving.
Tip #2: Taste all the fruits while chopping, to make sure they are sweet and not super tart. It's happened to me that I once used a very sour kiwi for this recipe, and it added a bitter aftertaste to the salad.
Tip #3: If you would like to add texture to this salad, you can add slivered almonds or crushed walnuts.
Tip# 4: If you don't have heavy whipping cream on hand, you can easily substitute it with cool whip.

Notes
- Fruits: Use your favourite fruits for this recipe. I find banana and berries to be quite integral to the flavour of this salad.
- Kiwi: Try to use kiwi that is ripe and sweet. I once made this salad with a sour kiwi, and it made the whole salad taste bitter.
- Dressing: You can adjust the amount of the dressing ingredients to your liking. This is the ratio I like the most, flavorwise.
- Make ahead: Since apples and bananas brown quickly, I recommend consuming this salad as soon as it is made. However, you can prepare the salad beforehand. Just before serving, add the apple and bananas to avoid discolouration of this salad.
