About this Recipe:

This dates milkshake recipe is a great breakfast or snack for any time of day. It's one of those healthy recipes that's great to have on hand to mix things up. This delicious date shake will energize you and dazzle your tastebuds. It only has a few ingredients but it's full of flavor and nutrients. I know you will enjoy this shake any time of year.

A note on where this recipe is inspired from. I live in the Middle East and we have a very popular drink called Tamry aka dates milk. It's only made with a few ingredients, but is very delicious! Today's recipe is inspired by this very drink, and not inspired by a popular Californian Palm Springs drink made with dates, milk, and ice cream, even though it sounds super delicious as well!

P.S. if you love Middle Eastern recipes, then you must try: Kunafa, Saffron Tea, and Um Ali!

Why this Recipe Works

Perfect for Breakfast: This date milkshake aka khajoor milkshake recipe is the perfect option for a nutritious breakfast. It's filling, easy to make, and super tasty. I love packing it for a quick breakfast throughout the week.

Healthy Snacks: The Medjool dates make delicious snacks, so added to a milkshake, they are even tastier. There is no added sugar or unhealthy fat to make you feel sluggish later in the day.

Ingredient Notes/Substitutions

Milk:

Types of Date: The best dates to use for this recipe are Medjool dates. These dates are soft and sweet, leaving a great flavor for your milkshake. Since they are so soft, they can be easily blended in a high-powered blender without soaking them first. If you choose to use any other variety of dates, you may need to soak them in hot water for a few minutes to soften them up before blending them.

Milk Powder: This adds a delicious flavor to your date milkshake recipe. I think it just makes the milkshake taste better! If you have ever had the Date Milkshake by Almarai sold in Middle Eastern Countries, they add milk powder.

Helpful Tips / Success Tips

Optional Flavorings & Variations: Feel free to add a dash of cinnamon or vanilla extract for extra flavor if you wish. You can also make it more indulgent by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream and topping it with whipped cream.

Use a high-powered blender: If your blender doesn't have much life left in it, you may struggle to blend the dates to a smooth consistency. Make sure you use a high-powered blender to get the perfect creaminess.

Use seedless dates: If you are able, get seedless dates or dates with very small pits. This will make it easier to blend in your machine.

Recipe FAQs

Can I substitute almond milk in my Date Milkshake?

Using almost milk is a fine alternative to whole milk. It will result in the same creamy milkshake with delicious flavor. This is a great alternative for a vegan diet and tastes just as good.

What's so great about dates?

Dates are a fantastic source of dietary fiber, and they are packed with antioxidants that will protect your gut health. They make a great sugar replacement and support bone health when consumed regularly. If you are pregnant, they are also said to help with a natural birth.

Here are some great benefits of dates:

-great source of potassium
-rich in magnesium and iron
-amazing source of B-vitamins
-help regulate blood pressure
-provides an energy boost
-full of fiber
-low in fat

Adding this beverage recipe to your weekly snack or breakfast meal list is a great way to give your body the energy and nutrients it needs to get through the day. Milkshakes are the easiest way to enjoy the health benefits of dates without all the added sugars and polyunsaturated fat.

Serving Suggestions

Easily Altered: Add banana or chia seeds for additional nutrients and substance. The added fruit or seeds will help fill you up if one serving isn't enough. The banana also adds a great taste if you like a fruity flavor.

Add Chocolate: If you have a sweet tooth, add a bit of chocolate or cocoa powder for different types of sweetness.

Pair with a Date Breakfast: If you love dates and want even more in your diet, try these date rolls.
